Amaranthus guide

What is amaranthus?

Amaranthus is a group of plants with long, rope-like flower tassels. The hanging form, love-lies-bleeding, is a favourite with florists because it spills over the edge of a vase. Upright varieties add height and texture.

How florists use it

It softens the outline of an arrangement and adds a sense of movement. Red amaranthus suits rich autumn and winter colours, and green amaranthus works with white and green wedding schemes.

Caring for amaranthus

Trim the stems and keep them in fresh water, changing it every couple of days. Amaranthus also dries well and holds its shape.
