Buttonhole guide
Matching the wedding
The groom’s buttonhole often uses a flower from the bridal bouquet and can be a little different from the groomsmen’s, so he stands out. Fathers’ buttonholes can match the groomsmen or use a softer colour.
How to pin a buttonhole
- Place it on the left lapel, with the stem pointing down.
- Push the pin in from behind the lapel, through the stem, and back into the fabric.
- Use a second pin or a magnet for heavier designs so it doesn’t swing.
Keeping it fresh
Keep buttonholes in their box somewhere cool until the ceremony, and put them on just before photos.
